A leading global medical communications agency is seeking a Director of Scientific Services to provide senior scientific and strategic leadership across a growing and high-performing business unit.

This is a highly visible leadership role, offering the opportunity to shape scientific excellence, drive business growth, and partner with senior clients to deliver impactful, high-quality medical communications programmes across publications, and medical affairs.

The Role

As Director of Scientific Services, you will provide strategic scientific leadership across multiple accounts and teams, ensuring delivery of high-quality, compliant, and strategically aligned medical communications.

Working closely with senior client services leadership, you will share accountability for operational performance, financial delivery, and team development, while acting as a trusted strategic advisor to clients.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing senior scientific and strategic leadership across accounts and programmes
  • Leading and developing high-performing scientific and editorial teams
  • Acting as a senior strategic advisor to clients and stakeholders
  • Partnering with client services leadership to drive account growth and performance
  • Ensuring quality, compliance, and operational excellence across deliverables
  • Supporting business development, proposals, and new business pitches
  • Identifying growth opportunities and strengthening long-term client partnerships
  • Driving innovation across scientific communications, including omnichannel and AI-led approaches
  • Supporting continuous improvement through process optimisation and quality frameworks

About You

  • Extensive experience within a healthcare or medical communications agency
  • Life sciences degree required; advanced degree (PhD, MSc, MD) preferred
  • Broad range of therapeutic expertise
  • Proven leadership experience managing and developing scientific teams
  • Strong background in medical writing and scientific communications delivery
  • Experience operating at a strategic level with senior clients
  • Demonstrated commercial awareness and involvement in forecasting and business planning
  • Experience supporting or leading new business pitches and proposals
  • Strong stakeholder management and client relationship skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Interest in innovation, including AI and omnichannel medical communications
