The Role
The Site Manager is responsible for managing and coordinating all on‑site activities for NGED Major Projects, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards. Overseeing trench excavation, duct installation, reinstatement and HV cable works (11kV & 33kV), the role leads site teams and subcontractors, maintains compliance with company and client requirements and drives progress to meet programme objectives. Reporting to a Senior Project Manager, the Site Manager ensures effective communication, operational excellence and successful project delivery across all stages of construction.
Responsibilities
- Ensure all site activities are carried out safely, in line with company policies, statutory regulations and client requirements.
- Act as the main point of contact between operatives, subcontractors, management and client representatives.
- Manage daily site operations, ensuring works progress according to programme, quality standards and specifications.
- Coordinate with traffic management supplier to schedule and deploy site‑specific traffic plans.
- Maintain accurate site records, including daily diaries, permits, risk assessments and progress reports.
- Implement and enforce compliance with RAMS.
- Conduct daily briefings, toolbox talks and ensure operatives understand the safe system of work.
- Oversee permit‑to‑dig, confined space, hot works and cable pulling permits as required.
- Attend and contribute to site meetings with clients, contractor and stakeholders.
- Escalate technical queries, variations or unforeseen conditions.
- Ensure completion of as‑built records and handover documentation.
Technical Skills & Experience
- Proven experience supervising civil engineering projects within a power distribution (DNO) environment.
- Experience in streetworks and reinstatement within highways and footpaths.
- Strong knowledge of cable installation and civil engineering works including trench excavation, duct laying, joint bay construction and reinstatement.
- Understanding of high‑voltage (11kV & 33kV) cable installation processes.
- Familiarity with CDM regulations, NRSWA requirements and utility reinstatement standards.
Qualifications & Training
- CSCS (Black Card preferred).
- SSSTS or SMSTS (SMSTS preferred).
- NRSWA Supervisor qualification.
- First Aid at Work.
- Confined space and/or manual handling training (desirable).
- Cable pulling / Authorised Person experience or training (desirable).
- Full UK driving licence.
