Electrical Maintenance Engineer (BCE)

Location: Babraham, Cambridge

Salary: From £26,204 to £33,902 per annum plus £4,000 Recruitment and Retention allowance per annum

About the Role

The Babraham Institute is looking for an Electrical Maintenance Engineer to join our Babraham Campus Estates (BCE) team. You will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of electrical systems across our world‑class research facility. This is a hands‑on role requiring a proactive approach to both planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on a wide range of electrical plant and equipment.
  • Respond to reactive electrical faults and emergency breakdowns to minimise downtime.
  • Perform electrical installations, testing, and commissioning in accordance with current regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records of work completed using the site’s CAFM system.
  • Liaise with internal departments and external contractors to ensure site safety and compliance.
  • Participate in an on‑call rota to provide out‑of‑hours emergency cover.

Requirements

  • Fully qualified Electrician (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent).
  • 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).
  • Proven experience in industrial or commercial electrical maintenance.
  • Experience with 3‑phase systems, motors, and control gear.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and technical manuals.
  • Strong commitment to Health and Safety protocols.
