About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Principal Designer (CDM 2015) to support a major client site in the Midlands. This role requires strong technical competence, excellent communication skills, and the ability to coordinate design risk management across multiple contractors and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the planning, management, and monitoring of the pre-construction phase in line with CDM 2015.
  • Identify, eliminate, and reduce foreseeable design risks throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate design risk reviews and ensure designers comply with their duties.

CDM Compliance & Documentation

  • Develop, review, and update Pre-Construction Information (PCI) and ensure it is issued to all relevant parties.
  • Review and comment on contractor RAMS, ensuring alignment with design intent and risk controls. Prepare and manage the Health & Safety File, ensuring all required information is collected and maintained.

Site Coordination & Oversight

  • Carry out and record site inspections to verify that design risk controls are implemented.
  • Liaise with the Principal Contractor to ensure safe planning and sequencing of works.
  • Monitor compliance with approved statements and design risk mitigation measures.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as the key point of contact for the client on all CDM and design-related matters.
  • Facilitate communication between designers, contractors, and the client team.
  • Provide clear, timely updates on design risks, changes, and compliance issues.

Quality, Safety & Reporting

  • Conduct quality and safety inspections relating to design implementation.
  • Review and check design drawings, specifications, and reports for CDM compliance.
  • Maintain accurate records of design decisions, risk assessments, and coordination activities.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in CDM, design management, or construction H&S
  • Strong knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations
  • Experience managing multi-disciplinary design teams
  • Project and commercial management experience
  • NEBOSH Construction (or equivalent)
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills
  • Work on a critical, safety-led project in a dynamic live environment
  • High visibility role with direct client engagement
