Summary
Work with planning team to develop structural plans and write technical work instructions for the production/execution team. This position also includes conducting on-site reviews of ships, performing technical reviews for coworkers, proper filing, providing accurate work status, and other duties as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Production Planning (core function)
- Conduct structural inspections.
- Obtain IMIAs structural inspector certification.
- Identify, document and report deficiencies found onboard naval vessels.
- Work with production team to develop structural plans.
- Develop work packages for production use
- Review work specification to develop work instructions for trades use.
- Interpret NAVSEA drawings, standards and specifications.
- Determine Objective Quality Evidence requirements.
- Material Planning
- Develop job material list from technical references and drawings.
- Determine material sizes and quantities required.
- Resolve technical specification conflict or suitable substitutes.
- Assist purchasing in finding qualified vendors.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to enter and work in confined spaces.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Programs (Word and Excel required).
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings (structural/weld drawing experience preferred).
- Ability to communicate effectively and multi‑task.
- Knowledge of NAVSEA Standard Items.
- Familiarity with Government publications and standards for specifications and manuals.
- Working knowledge of Naval Ship repair & installation practices, specifically welding and fitting.
Education
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
Preferred Experience
- Minimum one (1) or more years in a shipyard production environment, preferably in US Navy repair or new construction shipyards.
Working Conditions
- Most work performed in an office environment under pressured, fast‑paced conditions; frequently requires overtime.
- Within the shipyard, minimal exposure to extreme temperatures, high noise levels, toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, dusty conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, hazardous machinery, confined spaces.
