Title: Software Security Engineer (Technical SME)

Location: Hybrid in London or Bristol 3 days per week

We are seeking a Software Security SME to join a leading organisation in the defence and advanced technology sector. The role focuses on developing and integrating complex, high‑reliability systems that support national security, operational readiness, and long‑term strategic capability.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working on cutting‑edge engineering programmes, collaborating across multi‑disciplinary teams, and contributing to solutions that support the safety and resilience of defence operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design, development, and integration of advanced defence technologies and systems.
  • Work closely with engineering, software, manufacturing, and quality teams to deliver solutions that meet customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Support system‑level analysis, modelling, and problem‑solving activities throughout the development life cycle.
  • Develop and maintain system documentation including requirements, architectures, interface specifications, and verification plans.
  • Participate in design reviews, technical discussions, and cross‑functional workshops.
  • Support testing, validation, and evaluation of integrated systems.
  • Ensure all engineering activities meet industry standards, safety principles, and compliance frameworks.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Background in systems engineering, electronics, aerospace, mechanical engineering, or related technical field.
  • Experience with requirements management and system design methodologies.
  • Familiarity with integration, testing, and analysis within complex technology environments.
  • Strong problem‑solving abilities and a structured approach to technical challenges.
  • Ability to work effectively within collaborative, multi‑national teams.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Experience working in the defence, aerospace, or high‑integrity engineering domains.
  • Knowledge of systems modelling tools (e.g., SysML, MBSE tools).
  • Understanding of certification, safety, or compliance processes.
