Job Summary

As a Maintenance Engineer at GKN Filton site, you will support operational excellence by maintaining and diagnosing faults on machine tools and plant, including CNC machines, CNC lathes, gear cutters, robots, swarf conveyors and related systems. You will work night shifts (7pm‑7am) on a 17‑week rota: 17 weeks Wednesday‑Friday & every other Saturday, or 17 weeks Sunday‑Tuesday & every other Saturday.

The night shift offers a 38% shift allowance for the first 35 hours and 58% for any additional paid hours.

How You'll Contribute

Maintain and diagnose faults on:

  • Machine tool axes: linear guides/rails, motors, gearboxes, lead screws, bearings
  • Machine guarding (internal & external)
  • Hydraulic & pneumatic systems: counterbalance circuits, clamping, motors, rams, cylinders
  • Fluid systems: checking and topping up oils, fault finding & diagnostics on complex machines and plant, including rails and gearboxes

Machine alignments by:

  • Checking and correcting machine alignments with clocking bars, datum holes, slip gauges, laser alignments and ball‑bar tests
  • Adjusting parameters in CNC control and testing with machine cuts and cycles

Plant maintenance:

  • Maintaining CNC milling machines, CNC lathes, gear cutters, jig borers, robots, swarf conveyors, coolant systems and related equipment

Electrical tasks:

  • Knowledge of machine‑tool electrical systems
  • Understanding machine parameters and diagnostics
  • Running calibration programmes
  • Disconnecting pumps & motors; resetting trip fuses

What You'll Bring

  • Background in maintaining 4/5 axis CNC milling machines
  • Experience in cross‑functional team work
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings

Desirable:

  • Similar maintenance lead role experience
  • Night shift experience
  • IOSH/NEBOSH qualifications
  • Leadership skills
