Health & Safety Manager – Tate & Lyle Sugars

Site: Tate & Lyle Sugars, Factory Rd, London E16 2EW

At Tate & Lyle Sugars, we’re searching for a Health & Safety Manager who can inspire, influence, and elevate safety performance across our flagship Thames Refinery.

This is your chance to step into a role where your voice matters, your expertise drives real change, and your leadership shapes the culture of a major UK industrial site.

Why this role matters

Our operations are expanding. Systems are evolving. We need someone who can bring clarity, structure, and energy.

This is a role for someone who can influence at every level—from the shop floor to senior leadership—while building strong relationships across a growing and evolving organisation.

This is a high‑impact role in a complex industrial environment, ideal for someone who can influence, engage, and drive continuous improvement.

What you’ll lead

  • A site‑wide safety vision that aligns with our global H&S ambitions.
  • Maintain a robust auditing system to ensure risks are controlled and improvement areas identified.
  • Behavioural safety programmes that genuinely shift mindsets.
  • High‑quality investigations, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Fire protection, contractor management, and compliance across a complex industrial and port‑based environment.
  • Engagement across departments, functions, and global EHS networks.

Cross‑Functional Leadership

  • Support Plaistow site during absences or incidents.
  • Build strong partnerships across operations, commercial teams, and global EHS networks.
  • Provide regular safety performance reports to regional and corporate EHS leaders.
  • Ensure group standards are embedded locally.
  • Collaborate with the Environment Manager—covering each other when needed.

What makes you a great fit

  • You’re experienced in either heavy industry or Manufacturing and understand high‑risk environments.
  • You influence without forcing: people follow you because you connect, not because you command.
  • You communicate clearly, confidently, and with emotional intelligence.
  • You’re resilient, proactive, and thrive in environments where no two days look the same.
  • You’re ready to help build stronger systems, better processes, and a more data‑driven approach to safety.

What you’ll experience

  • A role with visibility, influence, and genuine purpose.
  • A collaborative partnership with our Environment Manager and wider teams.
  • A chance to shape the next chapter of safety at a site with deep heritage and big ambitions.
  • If you want a role where your leadership truly matters, this is it.
