Engineering Team Leader (Electrically Biased)

Location: Ower Hatchery, near Totton

Salary: Up to £50,000 per year, depending on experience

Hours: 45 hours per week on a 2‑week rota (with on‑call requirement every other week)

About The Role

We are looking for a highly competent and motivated Engineering Team Leader (Electrically Biased) to join our maintenance team at our hatchery in Ower. In this role, you will play a key part in ensuring the smooth and reliable operation of hatchery machinery, with a strong focus on electrical systems, control panels, automation, and reactive fault diagnosis.

You’ll be responsible for planning preventative maintenance, leading breakdown response, and driving continuous improvement across the site to enhance reliability and performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage and mentor a team of Engineers
  • Take ownership of electrical fault finding, diagnostics and system improvements
  • Oversee planning and execution of PPM schedules and reactive repairs
  • Improve equipment reliability and eliminate recurring electrical faults
  • Support and manage external contractors for servicing and maintenance
  • Drive engineering best practices and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Participate in the on‑call rota (week‑on/week‑off, Friday to Friday)

What You’ll Need to Be Successful

  • Strong electrical engineering background with hands‑on fault‑finding experience
  • Completed an Engineering Apprenticeship or Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering
  • Previous experience leading or supervising an engineering team
  • Experience within food manufacturing, agriculture, FMCG, or a similar industrial environment (desirable)
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to create a positive and high‑performing team culture

Working Pattern

Week 1: Monday – Friday, 06:00 – 15:30

Week 2: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday & Saturday, 06:00 – 15:30 (On‑call requirement applies)
