Job Description

Manufacturing Systems & Automation Engineer

London (Liverpool Street) | Hybrid (3 days onsite) | £60,000–£70,000 + benefits

A globally recognised FTSE-listed technology group is driving an ambitious digital transformation across its portfolio of advanced engineering and manufacturing businesses.

Their products play a critical role in improving safety, environmental sustainability, and healthcare outcomes worldwide.

As part of a central digital function, this role offers a unique opportunity to operate as an internal consultant, working across multiple operating companies to design and deliver cutting‑edge Industry 4.0 solutions.

This is not a traditional plant‑based role. You’ll be shaping how modern manufacturing environments evolve, bringing together data, AI, robotics, and automation to drive measurable improvements in efficiency, quality, and uptime.

What you’ll be doing

  • Leading pilots and projects in AI‑assisted visual inspection, predictive maintenance, robotics, and automation.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, and performance at cell, line, or departmental level.
  • Designing and delivering data‑driven solutions across MES, SCADA, IIoT, and digital manufacturing technologies.
  • Working alongside operational and engineering teams to translate real‑world problems into actionable technical solutions.
  • Creating scalable frameworks and reference architectures for repeatable adoption across multiple sites.
  • Supporting the implementation and adoption of modern manufacturing technologies across global operating companies.

What they’re looking for

  • 4–6 years’ experience in digital manufacturing, automation, or Industry 4.0 environments.
  • Exposure to PLCs, MES, SCADA, IIoT, robotics, AI, or computer vision in a manufacturing context.
  • Strong understanding of production processes, quality control, and visual inspection.
  • Ability to bridge engineering and digital/technical solutions.
  • Comfortable working across multiple sites and stakeholders.
  • Proactive, solutions‑focused mindset with hands‑on problem solving and innovation.

Nice to have

  • Experience implementing predictive maintenance or monitoring legacy equipment.
  • Familiarity with data analytics dashboards and visualization tools.

Why this role stands out

  • Operate across a portfolio of highly innovative engineering businesses rather than a single site.
  • Hands‑on application of emerging tech to solve real operational challenges.
  • Real ownership: lead pilots, shape solutions, and influence global manufacturing strategy.
  • Exposure to a wide range of technologies and manufacturing environments.
  • Strong long‑term career trajectory into senior digital or operational leadership roles.
  • Stability of a global FTSE-listed group, combined with the agility of smaller businesses.
