We are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to play a key role within our Management Accounts function, supporting the production of high‑quality internal and external management information and helping to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the department.
Reporting to the Head of Finance and Business Transformation, the Financial Controller will be responsible for maintaining robust financial control and driving commercial performance across the business. As a senior leader, the role will provide strategic insight, financial oversight and commercial intelligence, working in close partnership with stakeholders to support delivery of the Group’s objectives. The position is a key member of the company’s senior leadership team and will play an important role in shaping the future direction of the business.
Responsibilities
- Support the Head of Finance in strategic planning and commercial performance.
- Guide and mentor the finance team to ensure timely month‑end results.
- Ensure compliance with external audit, internal audit, HMRC and corporate governance requirements.
- Implement and enforce financial controls, ensuring Group policies compliance.
- Drive performance through business partnering, collaborating with procurement and project managers to assess impact on monthly results and cash flow.
- Streamline processes to improve efficiency and accuracy across the finance function.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for Finance Team escalations, ensuring clear communication.
- Lead, develop and motivate the Management Accounts team.
- Produce and review monthly internal Management Accounts, financial reports for stakeholders.
- Oversee balance sheets, reconciliations and cash‑flow forecasting.
- Provide insight analysis for the board to understand performance drivers.
- Manage financial controls, quality standards and stakeholder communication.
- Coordinate with purchasing to control costs.
- Lead year‑end audit coordination.
- Maintain accurate accounting data and pursue continuous system / process improvement.
- Oversee finance projects, including ERP controls and reporting development.
- Build financial models to evaluate business and growth opportunities.
- Support the Head of Finance on group structure rationalisation, tax and technical accounting matters.
- Participate in strategic projects driving growth.
Qualifications
- CA/ACA/ACCA qualified.
- 8+ years of experience in finance or financial control at a senior level.
- Excellent analytical and numerical skills.
- Strong attention to detail and process orientation, with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative team‑player mindset.
- Ability to work to deadlines and adapt in high‑pressure environments.
- Proven ability to mentor and develop staff.
- Understanding of UK corporate governance, HMRC compliance and financial controls.
- Experience with ERP implementation and finance controls development.
