With a clear focus on financial sustainability and community outcomes, the organisation is preparing for Local Government Reorganisation, creating an opportunity to join at a pivotal point combining operational leadership with exposure to longer-term transformation.

The Role

Reporting into the senior finance leadership team, you will lead the council’s technical and operational finance function, covering statutory reporting, treasury, and core transactional services.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading statutory accounts and managing external audit
  • Acting as a key advisor to senior stakeholders and committees
  • Driving improvements across finance processes, controls, and service delivery
  • Leading and developing the team to strengthen capability
  • Supporting wider transformation activity, including process and systems improvement

Required Experience

  • Proven experience within UK local government finance
  • Strong understanding of statutory accounting and audit processes
  • Experience leading teams and improving finance operations
  • Confident stakeholder engagement and ability to influence
  • Professionally qualified (CIPFA, ACCA or CIMA)
