About Amodo
We are a Sheffield based start‑up providing expert engineering consultancy to a variety of clients and industries. We primarily focus on engineered product design, and work in a range of industries and contexts from quantum computing and biotech to heavy industry and animal welfare. We have a focus on ethical and sustainable delivery, but that means more to us than just bamboo straws and tote bags – we choose to work on projects that matter, work to deliver the best solution for our clients no matter what, and commit to doing so without compromising our values.
Responsibilities
Successful candidates will work alongside our multidisciplinary team to design and develop cutting‑edge solutions, systems, and products.
About You
- Extremely strong background in embedded software development
- Strong experience writing and deploying production firmware for microprocessors
- FPGA experience
- Excellent grasp of programming best practice
- 5+ years experience post‑qualification, experience in senior engineering roles
- Experienced and enthusiastic in using LLM tools to speed up workflows (e.g. Claude code)
- Experience with electromechanical systems, control loops and kinematics
- Strong understanding of electronics design and manufacture
What is it like to work at Amodo
- Our values: truth‑seeking, excellent, enthusiastic, kind, humble, and always learning
- Our approach: we think before diving in, iterate fast, and focus on the highest‑impact 80/20 work. We favour rapid experimentation, quick feedback loops, and sprinting to "something that works" rather than over‑planning.
- Feedback culture: we practice radical candor, which means being clear and direct while staying kind, and welcoming feedback at every level
- No "not my job"‑ism: if we see something wrong, we fix it. If your part of a project is going great and another is struggling, don’t settle for polishing a chunk of a struggling ship
- Socials: table tennis every lunch, personal project evenings, pub trips, trail running club, and more
- Office: spacious, modern space in central Sheffield, with parking and bike storage. In‑house workshop and equipment for our mechanical and electrical work
- Project structure: you will generally be on one main project at a time, while supporting on one or two smaller projects. Team sizes vary from 2–10+ engineers, where most are around four. Durations largely are within the 2–8 months range.
