The Craft Potters Association is the UK’s leading membership organisation for studio potters and ceramic artists. We exist to support and promote excellence in contemporary ceramics.
- Three major fairs: Ceramic Art London, Oxford Ceramics Fair, York Ceramics Fair

- Ceramic Review: our international magazine
- Membership: a community of over 2,000 makers and collectors

Role Overview
This is a broad, hands‑on role combining strategic oversight with practical delivery across all CPA marketing and communications activity.
The focus of the role is to:
- Bring greater clarity, consistency and coordination to marketing across the organisation
- Develop a more audience‑led and commercially effective approach
- Ensure that key campaigns, particularly for our fairs, are delivered to a high standard
You will work closely with the Director and senior colleagues to identify and support opportunities for audience growth, engagement and income generation across CPA activity.
Success in this role depends on:
- Working effectively with colleagues and freelancers
- Focusing effort where it has the greatest impact
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Marketing & Planning (c.30%)
- Lead a joined‑up marketing and communications plan across CPA activity
- Embed a clear “One CPA” approach across all channels (email, web, social)
- Work with senior colleagues (gallery, magazine, fairs, finance) to align activity and priorities
- Work with the Director and senior colleagues (including the Ceramic Review Editor, Commercial Manager and Gallery Manager) to identify and develop growth opportunities and translate these into clear, deliverable marketing approaches
- Introduce simple, practical ways to plan, track and evaluate marketing performance
- Use data and insight to improve decision‑making, not to create unnecessary complexity
2. CRM, Email & Audience Development (c.25%)
- Take ownership of email marketing strategy and delivery across CPA
- Leverage the organisation’s CRM platform to
- Improve segmentation and targeting
- Create a more coherent audience journey
- Support growth in key audience areas, including:
- Fair visitors and ticket buyers
- Collectors and buyers
- Membership engagement and retention
- Establish a more consistent and effective campaign rhythm
3. Campaign Delivery (Fairs, Gallery, Magazine) (c.30%)
- Lead the marketing delivery for CPA fairs (CAL, Oxford, York), working closely with internal marketing support, event leads and freelance support (e.g. paid social, PR)
- Develop and implement campaign plans that are realistic and focused
- Print and on‑site materials
- Key messaging and positioning
- Support marketing activity for:
- Contemporary Ceramics (gallery exhibitions and sales)
- Ceramic Review (subscriptions, content, partnerships)
- This role focuses on marketing delivery, not event logistics or operations.
4. Content, Brand & Communications (c.10%)
- Maintain a clear and consistent tone of voice and brand identity across CPA
- Write and edit key content, including
- Newsletters
- Press releases
- Web copy
- Work with designers, photographers and contributors to produce high‑quality materials
- Ensure communications are clear, accessible and audience‑focused
5. Freelancers & External Support (c.5%)
- Manage and brief freelance support (e.g. paid social, content creation)
- Ensure external resource is used efficiently and effectively
- Maintain a small, reliable network of suppliers
What This Role Is Not
- Take full responsibility for event logistics or delivery
- Require constant content production across all channels
- Operate as a large‑team “head of marketing” role
It is a focused, senior, hands‑on role within a small organisation, where prioritisation is essential.

- Proven experience in a broad marketing role, ideally in a small organisation
- Strong understanding of email marketing and CRM‑led communication
- Experience planning and delivering multi‑channel campaigns
- Excellent writing and editing skills
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with practical delivery
- Confident working across multiple projects with limited resource
- Strong organisational and prioritisation skills
- Experience in the arts, crafts or cultural sector
