NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non‑clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.
The Role
The opportunity has arisen for a band 5 Staff Nurse within the Paediatric Haematology/Oncology Day Unit Ward 2B Schiehallion Day Care, Royal Hospital for Children. The paediatric haematology/oncology unit provides a regional service for the treatment of childhood leukaemias as well as a range of other malignant and non‑malignant haemato‑oncological disorders. We are the paediatric haematology and oncology reference centre for the West of Scotland, provide a national service for Paediatric Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant, and host the Scottish Paediatric Molecular Radiotherapy service.
The day‑care ward delivers patient‑specific care to children requiring assessment, investigations and treatment for various haematology and oncology conditions, including bone‑marrow transplant and follow‑up care for recipients. Treatment is provided to children ranging from birth to 18 years of age and we liaise closely with other haematology/oncology centres participating in shared care.
As part of a multidisciplinary team, the post holder will be responsible for the delivery of excellent patient care within the clinical area in line with local policy. This will require the assessment, implementation and evaluation of care programmes within the paediatric haematology/oncology remit. They will play an active role in health promotion within this patient group and will provide holistic care to both patients and their families throughout treatment.
