Vehicle Engineering Lead Engineer – Expert Users
Location: Gaydon, Warwickshire
Rate: £33.88ph via an Umbrella Company (Inside IR35) or £25.26ph on a PAYE basis

The Vehicle Engineering Team within Product Engineering is responsible for delivery and sign‑off of vehicles that meet customer needs, through target setting and delivery (Attribute Integration), geometric optimisation (Geometric Integration), and compatibility of our software systems to deliver customer features (Systems/Features Integration). The team also supports the engineering Test & Development schedule/plan to achieve physical sign‑off.
This role focuses on a new branch of the Land Rover Defender brand, specifically developed for Expert Specialist Users targeting specialised applications with Governments, Emergency services, Charities and NCOs. The position requires out‑of‑the‑box thinking and innovation to develop the product offering to meet cost/performance needs distinct from the existing luxury car offer.
The role is high visibility, interacting with broader enterprise partners, Engineering Attributes, Export Teams, Marketing & Legal, Centres of Competence (CoCs), and Programme Delivery Teams, working in an Agile cadence of Technical Group Leaders, Chapter Group Leads and Programme Group Leads.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
- Define and deliver engineering targets and sign‑off for the programme.
- Lead cross‑functional geometric integration reviews to demonstrate evidence of goodness across vehicle systems, resolve failure modes and apply lessons learned (Geometric Integration).
- Lead functional systems integration and compatibility reviews to deliver customer features to quality (Systems Integration).
- Drive attribute development activities to ensure robust target achievement and highest level of engineering sign‑off integrity by VSSO (Attribute Integration).
- Coordinate engineering activities to overcome incompatibilities and meet programme milestones using Engineering Guild, ESO and Panel Chart processes.
- Support delivery of in‑flight programmes to Plant Nitra, including support for LRR reviews.
What you’ll need to be and demonstrate
- Strong, structured problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.
- Ability to think outside the box and innovate ideas to find solutions.
- CAD 3DX experience essential.
- Component releasing experience.
- Knowledge of attribute target setting and sign‑off.
- Technical knowledge and experience of key vehicle systems and whole‑vehicle engineering.
- Proven ability to work with technical data and cross‑functional teams to resolve problems.
- Relevant degree or equivalent experience.
- Technical knowledge of automotive platforms.
- Working knowledge of Agile principles and toolset.
