A well‑established residential childcare provider is looking to appoint a Registered Children’s Home Manager for an existing good‑rated children’s home based in Newcastle. This is an excellent opportunity for either an experienced Registered Manager or a strong Deputy Manager ready to take the next step into registration within a supportive, therapeutic and relationship‑led organisation. The home supports up to 4 young people aged 10–18 years with EBD and complex needs in a highly nurturing and structured environment. The organisation places a genuine focus on appropriate matching, therapeutic care and positive long‑term outcomes rather than occupancy‑driven practices. The successful candidate will lead an established staff team and play a key role in maintaining high standards of care, safeguarding and compliance, while developing a positive culture throughout the home. The service works in close partnership with a clinical psychological service to deliver a tailored therapeutic approach for each child, ensuring care is individualised and responsive to their needs, supported by ongoing collaboration with the staff team to promote consistent, high‑quality practice across the service. The role is Monday to Friday, 9:00am–5:00pm, with flexibility required to meet the needs of the home.

Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership & Management

  • Provide strong, visible leadership to establish a stable, high‑performing team
  • Develop a positive, therapeutic culture focused on outcomes for young people
  • Line manage Deputy Manager and residential staff team

Regulatory Compliance & Ofsted

  • Maintain full compliance with Children’s Homes Regulations & Quality Standards
  • Lead and prepare for Ofsted inspections, aiming for Outstanding outcomes
  • Ensure effective implementation of:
    • Statement of Purpose
    • Regulation 44 & 45 reports
    • Quality Assurance systems
    • Notify Ofsted of significant events in line with statutory requirements

Safeguarding & Risk Management

  • Take ultimate responsibility for safeguarding and child protection
  • Oversee robust:
    • Risk assessments
    • Behaviour management strategies
    • Missing from care protocols
  • Ensure all incidents are appropriately recorded, reviewed, and escalated
  • Work closely with LADO, Local Authorities, and safeguarding partners

Care Quality & Outcomes

  • Ensure delivery of child‑centred, trauma‑informed care
  • Monitor and review:
    • Placement plans
    • Care plans and risk assessments
    • Education, health, and emotional wellbeing outcomes
  • Drive measurable progress for each young person

Operational & Financial Management

  • Manage the home’s budget and resources effectively
  • Ensure occupancy levels and placement matching are appropriate
  • Maintain high standards of the physical environment and health & safety compliance

Multi‑Agency Working

  • Build strong partnerships with:
    • Local Authorities
    • Social Workers
    • Families
    • Education and health professionals
  • Represent the home in reviews, strategy meetings, and professional forums

Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement

  • Implement a robust quality assurance framework
  • Analyse trends, incidents, and feedback to improve service delivery
  • Lead service development and innovation

Essential Person Specification

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management for Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
  • Significant experience managing a children’s home
  • Proven track record of achieving GOOD Ofsted ratings
  • Enhanced DBS check on Update Service
  • In‑depth knowledge of:
    • Children’s Homes Regulations 2015
    • Safeguarding and child protection frameworks
    • Strong leadership, decision‑making, and organisational abilities

Desirable

  • Experience opening or improving children’s homes
  • Therapeutic or trauma‑informed care training
  • Strong local authority commissioning relationships
