Workshop Supervisor

We are seeking a Workshop Supervisor to lead and oversee the repair and overhaul of a wide range of industrial process equipment, including motors, pumps, gearboxes, and related machinery. This position involves managing a team of 15 skilled workshop engineers and working both in-house and on-site to ensure that repairs meet the highest industry standards. You will play a crucial role in mentoring the engineering team, driving sales, and maintaining exceptional service levels while adhering to strict health and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure all activities comply with the company's HSEQ policies and procedures, maintaining the highest standards of health, safety, environmental, and quality practices.
  • Monitor and report timekeeping throughout all stages of the job process, in alignment with company operational protocols.
  • Lead, mentor, and evaluate a team of 15 workshop engineers, providing technical guidance and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Prepare and review technical specifications, job costing, and value-added components to ensure efficient and cost-effective repairs.
  • Develop local sales strategies, engage with customers, and drive new business opportunities to expand the company's footprint in the market.
  • Actively engage in daily “Golden Hour” calls and customer visits to strengthen relationships and identify opportunities for service enhancements.
  • Support various engineering functions and assist the Engineering Manager with on-site work and operations across multiple engineering workshops.
  • Participate in an on-call rota, shift work, and overtime as necessary to ensure service levels are maintained and customer expectations are exceeded.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Timely and successful delivery of all repair and overhaul activities.
  • Ensure all work is completed to specification with zero non-conformance recorded.
  • Meet or exceed agreed-upon timeframes for project completion.
  • Regular one-on-one reviews with direct reports to assess team performance and development.
  • Drive site success by achieving a targeted number of Golden Hour calls (3 per day) and site visits (4 per month), contributing to both customer satisfaction and business growth.
  • Ensure safety and compliance standards are consistently met, with a focus on maintaining strong safety records.
  • Maintain work area cleanliness and organization in accordance with 5S standards.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Formal training such as an indentured apprenticeship, NVQs, BTECs, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Desirable hold a CCNSG or IOSH certification.
  • Proven leadership experience, with the ability to manage, motivate, and evaluate a team of workshop engineers effectively.
