Contract: 6 month fixed term (June – December 2026). Band 7 – Senior Mental Health Practitioner
The Sussex Early Intervention Programme (EIP) service delivers care and treatment to young people and adults aged 14‑65 who are experiencing a first episode of psychosis. The role involves reducing distress, maintaining independence, supporting recovery and social inclusion, and working closely with families as part of care networks.
This post is within the Worthing team of the six EIP teams served by the Specialist services division of the Trust, which is supported by a specialized EIP Clinical Lead.
Main duties
- Provide day‑to‑day clinical leadership and specialist advice to ensure patient needs are met and treatment plans are implemented promptly;
- Promote a safe, positive working environment for patients and staff, challenging negative attitudes or behaviours;
- Supervise staff in line with the Trust's supervision policy;
- Support clinicians in managing complex cases and reducing risks;
- Maintain a caseload of Early Intervention in Psychosis patients as a member of a multidisciplinary team;
- Collaborate with the leadership team on service improvement and change implementation.
Clinical responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive mental‑health assessments for patients presenting with first‑episode psychosis;
- Manage a caseload of clients with complex needs, undertaking case‑management/lead‑professional/CPA duties as required;
- Communicate with families and carers to meet their needs;
- Partner with other agencies to achieve person‑centred outcomes.
Job responsibilities
Support the team leader in providing day‑to‑day clinical leadership and specialist advice, ensuring timely implementation of care and treatment plans, and maintaining high‑quality service experience for individuals experiencing first‑episode psychosis.
Requirements
- Registered Nurse with current registration (mental health / LD / Adult) or Registered Health Practitioner (AHP or SW) appropriate to the role;
- Extensive and recent experience in an EIP clinical setting;
- Broad experience working with clients with a range of mental‑health problems;
- Experience of multidisciplinary working and supervising staff and students;
- Experience as a Care Coordinator;
- Capacity to work from home remotely where applicable and in agreement with the line manager.
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (mental health / LD / Adult) or Registered Health Practitioner (AHP or SW);
- Degree or diploma level with specialist qualification, training, or courses equivalent to a master's in a relevant area;
- Evidence of ongoing professional development.
Knowledge & experience
- Extensive experience in an EIP clinical setting;
- Experience with a range of mental‑health problems;
- Experience of multidisciplinary working, supervising staff and students, and as a Care Coordinator;
- Good knowledge of national policy relating to psychosis, its treatment and management;
- Experience in leading or managing roles.
