We will work closely with the rest of the management team to promote and support the delivery of the service. Position Details
- Role: Access Team Lead
- Contract: Fixed term, 14 months
- Band: 8A + Inner London Weighting
- Location: Brixton, Stockwell and Streatham bases; 1‑2 days per week required in office, remainder remote.
Key Responsibilities
Planning, Managing and Evaluating the Delivery of Access Services
- Assess service need at triage and determine current and future capacity requirements.
- Plan and manage the recruitment process to meet need.
- Monitor and evaluate service activity and outcomes.
- Manage induction, training and development of Access staff.
- Liaise with SPA and STS to ensure appropriate referral and high‑quality service delivery.
- Develop and update policies and procedures for high‑quality clinical services.
- Commission and monitor external provision of triage services as agreed.
Team Management
- Agree job plans, performance targets and development goals with team through annual appraisal; monitor and support staff.
- Foster a supportive, performance‑focused team ethos through interaction, communication and supervision.
- Provide day‑to‑day line management for team (annual leave, sickness, etc).
- Induct new team members, agree job plans, train and support them, and meet regularly for development.
- Ensure good two‑way communication between staff and service management via monthly team meetings and informal links.
Service Leadership
- Share responsibility for service direction and development; active role in monthly service management meetings; lead team and whole‑team meetings.
- Provide regular reports on activity and performance of the Access team and highlight issues needing attention.
- Identify aspects of the service that could be improved; initiate and implement service development projects.
- Take lead in agreed areas of development and service delivery.
- Participate in recruitment of CSWs as needed.
- Contribute to consultation and engagement of service users in planning and development.
- Listen and respond, and appropriately manage patient complaints.
- Participate in clinical governance initiatives as agreed by the directorate clinical governance committee.
- Contribute to a culture that values outcome measures and user involvement for service improvement.
Clinical
- Provide expertise in a highly specialist clinical area for clients with anxiety or depression within an IAPT framework.
- Deliver NICE‑recommended, formulation‑driven psychological interventions and adapt them for specific needs.
- Provide specialist assessment and clinical formulation to clients with complex mental health needs.
- Provide psychological reports, including formulation, opinion and interventions to inform referrers and service users.
- Select and deliver evidence‑based treatments; monitor outcomes, modify and adapt interventions.
- Collect and enter clinical outcome data sessionally; interpret outcome measures for treatment planning.
- Work autonomously within BPS/BABCP/HCPC guidelines and service policies.
- Travel to community settings and across the Trust when required.
- Contribute to effective team working and a psychologically informed framework for the service area.
- Communicate skilfully and sensitively complex information with clients, carers, colleagues and other professionals, addressing sensory and cultural barriers.
- Maintain clear, accurate and up‑to‑date records of all clinical activity.
- Assess and monitor risk; create appropriate risk management plans.
- Advise colleagues on specialist psychological care.
- Respond to emotionally distressing situations and support others involved.
- Provide services at various locations in Lambeth borough.
- Provide information and signposting for patients who do not meet eligibility criteria.
- Refer people with more severe common mental health problems to secondary‑care psychological therapies.
- Work closely with IAPT team to ensure clear referral pathways.
- Maintain a clinical caseload in line with activity targets agreed with line manager.
Teaching, Training and Supervision
- Receive regular clinical and professional supervision from senior psychologist/psychotherapist per guidelines.
- Contribute to knowledge and skill base within Lambeth IAPT; stay aware of developments in psychology, CBT and IAPT.
- Provide professional, managerial and clinical supervision to HI CBT therapists, PWPs, trainees, assistant psychologists and other junior staff, including live supervision.
- Deliver and promote outcome‑focused supervision; participate in LI and HI supervisors groups.
- Provide service‑level risk management; partake in on‑call risk rota.
- Provide specialist training to other professions as appropriate.
- Plan and undertake teaching and training for pre‑ and post‑qualification psychologists and specialised training as appropriate.
- Provide supervision for the psychological work of other multi‑disciplinary staff where appropriate.
Research and Service Development
- Assist in developing a strong research culture that values outcome measures for practice improvement.
- Encourage critical evaluation of practice and undertake research.
- Use theory and literature to support evidence‑based practice in clinical work, supervision, teaching and consultations.
- Communicate and disseminate research and service evaluation information to inform practice.
- Initiate, undertake and supervise service evaluation and audit.
- Disseminate findings through presentations and published articles.
Professional Practice
- Work autonomously and maintain standards of practice adhering to BPS/BABCP/UKCP guidelines and service policies.
- Ensure CPD in line with BPS/BABCP/UKCP and Trust Personal Development Plan requirements.
- Stay aware of advances in CBT, other psychological therapies and the IAPT programme.
- Work in accordance with CBT principles and the Clinical Governance Framework policies.
General
- Participate in business and professional meetings within IAPT service and Lambeth Directorate.
- Travel to GP practices, service meetings and other meetings as appropriate.
- Regularly work one evening and occasionally Saturday work as required.
