Job Title: National Grid Competent Person (Civil Operative – NSI 6 & 8)

Location: National Grid Substation, Pembroke, Wales, SN12 7QF.

Rate: £30 per hour

Start Date: 27 April 2026

End Date: 30 October 2026

Hours: 07:30 – 17:30 (Approx. 45 hours per week)

IR35 Status: Inside IR35 (PAYE or Umbrella only)

Role

We are currently recruiting an experienced Competent Person / Civil Operative to support works on a live substation project at National Grid Pembroke Substation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as Competent Person in accordance with National Grid NSI 6 & 8 Safety Rules
  • Manage safe access and egress of personnel, plant and delivery vehicles within the substation
  • Ensure all works are carried out in line with HSG47 (Avoiding Danger from Underground Services)
  • Support civil works on site in line with ground worker responsibilities
  • Maintain strict compliance with site safety procedures, permits and authorisations
  • Liaise with site management and project teams to coordinate safe operations
  • Monitor site activities to ensure adherence to health, safety and environmental standards

Essential Requirements

  • National Grid Competent Person Authorisation (NSI 6 & 8 – Full Authorisation)
  • HSG47 (Cat 1+2)
  • Strong experience working within live HV substation environments
  • Manual Handling certification
  • Full PPE required prior to site attendance

Please note: Only candidates with the required National Grid authorisations and competencies will be considered.
