Responsibilities

The Building Control Team Leader will play a key role in delivering a quality service across approximately 250 square miles of central Hampshire, covering historic towns, scenic villages and rural environments. The successful applicant will:

  • Lead plan checking and onsite inspections across a variety of application types.
  • Manage and support a team of surveyors on technical building control matters.
  • Assist the Service Lead in the delivery of BSR returns, service audits and the Council’s duty to collect the Building Safety Levy.
  • Prioritise a varied workload for themselves and the wider team, ensuring high professional and service standards.
  • Apply detailed knowledge of the Building Act 1984, Building Regulations, and the Building Safety Act 2022 in all activities.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Minimum of 5 years proven experience in plan checking and onsite inspections.
  • Minimum BSR Class 2D competence.
  • Member of a recognised professional body such as RICS, CABE, or equivalent.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent IT and records management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritise workload.
  • Experience within a local authority Building Control environment is desirable.
  • Physical ability to meet the site‑based demands of the role, including travel requirements.
