36 hrs per week, 52.14 weeks per year – Permanent + 7.5 shift allowance

The Tree & Woodland Operative is a member of a small specialist team responsible for carrying out a full range of tree and woodland duties resulting in a well maintained and managed tree and woodland stock for the council. The work is of a varied nature and includes climbing arboriculture work on specimen trees to work in productive forestry areas owned by the council.

A sound knowledge of current best practice in arboriculture, woodland / forestry management practices and the ability to maintain and service small plant such as chainsaws is essential.

Candidates must have the ability to drive, be personable with good oral communication skills and have a good level of fitness.

Essential

Appropriate certification to SVQ Level 2 in Arboriculture or Woodland and Forestry, Tree work or equivalent experience

Knowledge of tree species, disease and identification

A flexible approach to work

Self-motivated and enthusiastic

Ability to work on your own or as part of a small team

Good interpersonal skills and experience of working with the public

NPTC/City and Guilds certification to: -

  • NPTC 201, 202 & 203 (CS30, CS31) Chainsaw Maintenance & Operations. Fell & Process Small Timber
  • NPTC 206 & 306 (CS38) Tree Climbing & Aerial Rescue
  • NPTC 308 (CS39) Chainsaw Use from Rope & Harness. Cutting of Trees Using Free-Fall Techniques or equivalent

Working knowledge of Health & Safety at Work Act and other relevant legislation and regulations relating to tree and woodland work

Forestry / Arboricultural knowledge/experience

An aptitude and ability to learn and practice new skills

Computer / tech literate

Full UK driving licence appropriate to the section covered
