Mechanical Design Engineer | M&E Building Services | London | £65,000-£75,000 + Travel + Hybrid Working

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join a well-established M&E Building Services contractor delivering commercial office fit-out projects across Central London, typically ranging from £100k to £2m+ in value.

Working within a fast-paced Design & Build environment, this role offers the opportunity to be involved in the full project lifecycle, from initial concept and design development through to delivery and handover.

The Role

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for producing and coordinating mechanical building services designs that are both technically robust and fully deliverable within live project environments.

This is a hands‑on, delivery-focused role within a Design & Build setting, working closely with project and site teams to ensure designs align with programme, cost, and buildability requirements.

Projects typically range from small works through to larger commercial fit‑out installations, generally from £100k up to £2m+ in value.

Key Responsibilities

  • Producing mechanical building services designs and specifications
  • Supporting design development from concept through to detailed design
  • Coordinating designs within a Design & Build environment
  • Working closely with project and site teams to ensure buildable solutions
  • Attending design meetings and liaising with clients and stakeholders
  • Supporting technical submissions and documentation
  • Assisting with on‑site queries and live design adjustments during delivery

Requirements

  • Experience working as a Mechanical Design Engineer within the Building Services sector
  • Strong experience delivering commercial projects (office fit‑out, refurbishment, or similar)
  • Experience working within a Design & Build or contractor‑led environment
  • Ability to produce practical, buildable designs suited to fast‑paced delivery
  • Strong understanding of mechanical building services systems
  • Experience with AutoCAD and ideally Revit/BIM tools
  • Stable career history demonstrating commitment and reliability

Important

This role is specifically suited to engineers with commercial or fit‑out project experience. Those whose experience is primarily within residential or developer‑led projects are unlikely to be a strong match.

Remuneration Package

  • £65,000-£75,000
  • Hybrid working (typically 3 days in the office, 2 days from home)
  • Travel expenses covered for office attendance
  • Bonus scheme
  • Pension
  • Holiday allowance

This role would suit candidates currently working as:

  • Mechanical Design Engineer
  • Intermediate Mechanical Design Engineer
  • Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
  • Building Services Design Engineer
  • MEP Design Engineer
