About the role

We’re looking for a talented DevOps Engineer to join our growing team to help deliver and support the technical foundations that power our Thinqi product which is used around the world.

You’ll play a key role in maintaining a large estate of systems and cloud infrastructure, while working closely with engineering, operations, and customers to ensure everything runs smoothly.

This is a hands-on role combining technical delivery, operational support, and continuous improvement. You’ll be trusted to work independently, think critically, and take ownership, while also collaborating across teams to deliver high-quality outcomes for our clients..

What you’ll be doing

  • Maintain and support a large estate of AWS cloud infrastructure.
  • Administer and integrate applications with our award-winning LMS.
  • Build, maintain, and improve infrastructure using Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g. CloudFormation).
  • Participate in an out-of-hours rota as required (with flexible lieu time in return).

DevSecOps & Security

  • Help maintain a fit-for-purpose IT and hosting estate.
  • Identify, escalate, and support remediation of security incidents and vulnerabilities.
  • Contribute to threat modelling, penetration test remediation, and security documentation.
  • Work closely with engineering, operations, and project teams to meet delivery targets.
  • Liaise directly with customers and external suppliers to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
  • Support the helpdesk team with common customer requests and platform queries.
  • Use approved AI tools to support day-to-day operations, troubleshooting and documentation.
  • Apply critical judgement to AI-generated outputs, ensuring alignment with company standards.
  • Identify repetitive operational tasks suitable for AI-assisted automation.
  • Assess AI-driven recommendations for security, performance, and cost impact.

What we’re looking for

Essential experience & skills

  • Experience as a DevOps Engineer or in a similar software or infrastructure role.
  • Strong Windows and Linux system administration skills (including shell scripting – Bash, PowerShell, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, ideally AWS.
  • Experience with Docker and containerised environments.
  • Proficiency with version control systems (Git).
  • Experience using Infrastructure-as-Code tools (e.g. CloudFormation).
  • Working knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, MongoDB).
  • Excellent attention to detail and a proactive, problem-solving mindset.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

  • Experience using AI coding tools such as VS Code Copilot.
  • AWS SysOps Administrator certification (or equivalent).
  • BSc in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

This role requires:-

  • UK residency and eligibility for security vetting, due to the nature of the systems we work with.
  • You’ll need to be flexible with working patterns at times to support system monitoring rotas. We aim to plan these in advance wherever possible.
