Locum Consultant in Anaesthesia

Two full time Locum Consultants in Anaesthesia are required to meet the demand for anaesthesia services at Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust (HDFT).
This posts will be primarily based at Harrogate District Hospital, with some sessions undertaken at our theatres in Wharfedale Hospital. These are locum positions to cover leave within the established team. The successful applicant will join the existing 23 Consultants and 16 SAS doctors in Anaesthesia. The newly appointed Locum Consultants will take part in the out-of-hours Generalist Consultant in Anaesthesia on-call rota.
Main duties of the job
Provision of a comprehensive anaesthesia service to elective operating lists for patients aged 2 years and above (including, but not limited to, preoperative assessment, intraoperative care and postoperative prescriptions).
Provision of a comprehensive anaesthesia service to patients presenting acutely and requiring anaesthesia input.
Provision of clinics as specified in the job plan.
Support for the Trust's various medical emergency teams (for example, adult and paediatric 'crash' teams, and the trauma team).
Provision of on-call anaesthesia cover for the acute theatre, Delivery Suite and paediatric critical care (in conjunction with the on-call Paediatric Consultant and paediatric retrieval service, Embrace).
Compliance with national guidelines (for example, NICE and RCoA).
Compliance with Trust guidelines (for example, enhanced recovery programmes).
Ensuring accurate documentation in line with Trust and national guidance.
To regularly devote time for the training of junior medical staff and students, contributing as appropriate to undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education.
To manage personal workload in such a way as to ensure that capacity is maximised and quality of care is optimised.

Person Specification
Clinical Experience
- Five years supervised training in an appropriate training programme.
- Ability to maintain clinical credibility and authority with a multi-professional team including senior doctors in training.
- Evidence of completing a period of approved training in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care.
- Specific interests of different aspects of critical care including outreach, rehabilitation and follow up and point of care ultrasound.
Research
- Ability to convert research evidence into clinical practice.
- Publication in peer reviewed journal(s).
- Involvement in trial recruitment.
Qualifications
- Entry on GMC Specialist Register; eligible for entry on Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview.
- FRCA examination or equivalent.
- FFICM examination or equivalent.
- Postgraduate thesis.
- ATLS.
- ALS.
