The Job Profile

Simon & Schuster UK is seeking a highly organised and commercially minded Commercial Finance Analyst. In this position, you will collaborate with teams strategically while also supporting Commercial Finance Managers across the Adult and Children’s divisions. You will provide robust financial analysis and act as a trusted, credible commercial voice within the business.

The Job Role

Reporting to the Head of Commercial Finance, you will play a pivotal role in supporting and driving the company’s financial performance. You will develop a strong understanding of key performance drivers, as well as publishing programmes and processes, ensuring robust systems and controls are in place to measure performance across multiple dimensions.

As a Commercial Finance Analyst, you will deliver timely financial insights to support commercial decision-making across the business, with a particular focus on digital publishing.

You will take ownership of weekly eBook and eAudio POS reporting, providing clear analysis and actionable insights to inform digital sales strategy and performance. The role also includes managing and monitoring divisional Marketing and Publicity budgets, identifying ROI risks and opportunities.

You will be responsible for recording, reporting, and analysing the financial performance of joint venture arrangements, including issuing statements to authors and group entities. In addition, you will produce retrospective title and author profitability reviews, sub-rights analysis, stock reporting, and backlist sales analysis by brand across home, export, and digital channels.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded finance professional to deepen their analytical expertise, strengthen their commercial collaboration skills, and make a meaningful contribution to strategic decision-making within a dynamic publishing environment.

The Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be studying towards a recognised qualification (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA), with experience in commercial finance or financial reporting.

They will have a solid grounding in financial analysis, reporting, and budgeting principles, ideally gained within a publishing, media, or consumer-facing environment. A strong analytical mindset, excellent attention to detail, and confidence working with large datasets are essential.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. They should be comfortable developing strong relationships with non-finance teams, translating data into clear, practical insights to support decision-making.

A proactive, solutions-focused approach and a genuine interest in commercial performance are key. Advanced Excel and financial modelling skills are required, while experience supporting budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis is desirable, along with an interest in digital sales
