Job Summary
The Industrial Refrigeration Engineer is responsible for the maintenance, servicing, and commissioning of industrial refrigeration systems across a range of sites. This hands‑on role requires a deep technical understanding of industrial cooling technologies (including ammonia and CO₂ systems), as well as strong fault‑finding skills. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to safety, compliance, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in commissioning of industrial refrigeration systems (including ammonia and CO₂-based systems).
- Assist in system upgrades, retrofits, and modifications.
- Complete commissioning paperwork and ensure proper system handover.
Service & Maintenance
- Conduct routine and reactive maintenance on refrigeration plant and associated equipment.
- Diagnose and repair system faults with minimal downtime.
- Complete service reports and maintain accurate records of work undertaken.
- Participate in on‑call rotation for emergency response.
- Provide rapid on‑site support to minimise operational disruptions.
- Work closely with other engineers, supervisors, and project managers.
- Support junior technicians and apprentices in field operations.
- Attend regular toolbox talks and team briefings.
Technical Expertise
- Work with ammonia (NH₃), CO₂, glycol, and HFC systems.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and P&IDs.
- Apply best practices for energy efficiency and system optimisation.
Compliance & Safety
- Adhere to F‑Gas regulations, site‑specific safety protocols, and company policies.
- Ensure all RAMS, permits, and safety documentation are followed on‑site.
- Report near misses and incidents as part of continual improvement.
Customer Interaction
- Communicate effectively with clients while on‑site.
- Represent the company professionally and uphold customer service standards.
- Report customer concerns and recommend system improvements.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in industrial refrigeration engineering.
- Experience with ammonia and/or CO₂ refrigeration systems.
- City & Guilds Level 2 or 3 in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning (or equivalent).
- Full UK driving licence.
- Strong understanding of health & safety regulations and risk assessments.
- Excellent diagnostic and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- IT proficiency for service reporting (tablet/laptop use).
- Professional attitude and customer‑focused approach.
