About the Role
Hampstead Theatre is seeking a strategic, ambitious and relationship‑driven Development Director to lead our fundraising strategy and drive income across all philanthropic streams.
This vacancy has arisen as our long‑standing Development Director, Cathy Baker, retires after nearly eleven remarkable years of transformational leadership. She leaves a strong foundation, an engaged donor community and a platform primed for continued growth.
With philanthropy central to our unsubsidised operating model, this is a pivotal role in sustaining our artistic ambition, nurturing new writing and supporting our future resilience. You will join a collaborative senior team in a theatre where fundraising is embedded across all departments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead multi‑year fundraising strategy and drive income across all philanthropic streams.
- Build and steward relationships with major donors, prospects and supporters.
- Oversee Patrons and Friends schemes, ensuring high‑value engagement.
- Grow production syndicates and deliver bespoke donor access.
- Manage trusts and foundations, including applications and reporting.
- Develop and steward corporate partnerships and sponsorships.
- Lead cultivation events, gala performances and donor receptions.
- Line‑manage two Development Managers and oversee budgets, KPIs and reporting.
- Support a culture of philanthropy across the organisation.
What We’re Looking For
- Proven track record of securing significant philanthropic income across multiple streams.
- Experience developing and delivering successful fundraising strategies in the arts or non‑profit sectors.
- Strong relationship‑builder with outstanding communication and donor stewardship skills.
- Confident working with senior stakeholders, trustees and high‑value supporters.
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities.
- Leadership experience and a collaborative approach to team culture.
- Commitment to Hampstead Theatre’s artistic mission and inclusive values.
