Senior Civil Engineer

Location: Remote working with occasional visits to Scotland

Position: Permanent

Our client, a highly regarded engineering and construction firm, is looking for a Senior Civil Engineer to support major high‑voltage infrastructure and renewable energy projects across the UK. You’ll be part of a high‑performing design team central to delivering critical protection and control systems across HV and EHV installations. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the full design lifecycle for key energy transition and power grid projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute detailed protection and control system designs from concept phase through to construction documentation.
  • Design and review technical drawings and documents including single‑line diagrams, protection schematics, etc.
  • Select and specify protection relays and associated IEDs suitable for HV/EHV applications.
  • Ensure all designs adhere to relevant industry and regulatory standards.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Participate in technical reviews, design risk assessments, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts within the team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related fields.
  • Experience with electrical modelling and coordination tools like ETAP, DIgSILENT, or similar.
  • Strong technical understanding of HV protection systems (11kV–400kV).
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience working on protection and control for substations, grid connections, or transmission infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with automation systems and communication protocols such as IEC 61850, Modbus, or DNP3 is beneficial.
