Mechanical Design Engineer

Company:
Apply for the Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Royal Leamington Spa
Job Description:

Hybrid, requiring ~2 days per week at Warwickshire HQ

A well-funded, dynamic agricultural technology start-up is pioneering a novel, sustainable solution for crop cultivation. The company’s core mission is to transform weed control by replacing chemical herbicides with a physical method.

The company seeks a talented and knowledgeable Mechanical Design Engineer to join its team, working closely with the Lead Engineer.

Core Responsibilities

This is a product development-focused role, delivering on the company roadmap for new and existing agricultural machinery. Duties will also include:

  • Design & Development: The Engineer will contribute to the development of agricultural machines, including parts, enclosures, hydraulic mechanisms, and electro-mechanical systems.
  • Performance & Reliability: The role focuses on improving the performance and reliability of the existing machine fleet operating across the UK and Europe.
  • Cost Reduction: The Engineer will critically attack the cost of existing machinery and contribute to the ground-up design of a new, lighter, more efficient machine (Value Engineering).
  • Hands-on Work: The role involves hands-on build, development testing, and ad-hoc travel to customer sites for diagnostic/troubleshooting work.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrable experience in Mechanical Design. The role could be a good fit for somebody at, or approaching, a ‘senior’ engineer level… equally those with around 3 or more years’ experience with high potential are also encouraged to apply!
  • Direct experience in the development and design of agricultural machinery a bonus… however experience in other heavy industries (e.g. construction, forestry, could also be deemed relevant).
  • Proven experience in Design for Cost/Value Engineering.
  • Competence with a major CAD package (Autodesk Inventor beneficial).
  • Experience with production systems (e.g., engineering change control).
  • Awareness of the Machinery Directive and risk assessment.
  • The successful candidate must be able to work under pressure in a flexible, dynamic, start-up environment.

Beneficial Experience

Experience working with the following systems is advantageous:

  • High voltage
  • PTO driven machinery
  • Hydraulic systems
  • Generators and 3 phase electrical systems
