Cardiff council delivers a wide range of essential services, and incidents and emergencies such as fires or floods have the potential to disrupt these services and the lives of people who live and work here.

As an Emergency Management Officer, you will help make sure we are ready to respond when the unexpected happens.

Cardiff is a vibrant city, home to sporting and entertainment venues that attract thousands of visitors every year and this means we must be prepared for anything. This summer, Cardiff is hosting thirty headline gigs with an estimated combined attendance of over 900,000.

The post-holder will be part of a team which is responsible for emergency preparedness, resilience and business continuity planning within Cardiff Council.

Responsibilities will include assisting in ensuring that effective and up to date plans are in place to comply with emergency planning, resilience and response legislation and guidance, including the Civil Contingencies Act 2004.

About the job

When in post you will work as part of a dynamic team to deliver an effective Emergency Management service, supporting managers and staff across the Council, to ensure a robust and resilient response to any incident or event. Representing the Council and working with multi-agency partners within the South Wales Local Resilience Forum.

You will assist with the preparation and delivery of all aspects of the training and exercises to help improve the council’s emergency preparedness.

What We Are Looking For From You

The successful candidate will be proactive and able to work independently as well as part of a team, have previous experience or an interest in Emergency Management and ideally have experience of working within a local authority and have knowledge of its duties under the Civil Contingencies Act 2004.

A confident communicator with a range of people, sometimes in pressurised situations.

Flexible and willing to work outside normal office hours when an emergency response is needed.

This post is temporary for a period of one year from the date of appointment.
