An experienced HR Manager is sought to take ownership of the full employee lifecycle for the growing London office of a full‑service US law firm. Working closely with Partners and global HR colleagues, the successful candidate will report into the Director of Administration, lead and develop a team of two and take ownership of all people matters. This is a hands‑on, high‑impact generalist role with real breadth; from ER to talent development, D&I and culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead day‑to‑day HR operations for the London office, acting as the primary HR point of contact for Partners and managers.
- Provide expert, pragmatic advice on employee relations, performance management and UK employment law.
- Lead, coach and develop a small local HR team – including an HR Senior Specialist and HR Assistant – creating clear development pathways, building confidence and capability, and fostering a high‑quality, client‑focused service.
- Handle complex ER matters including grievances, disciplinaries and conflict resolution.
- Oversee onboarding, talent development, L&D, succession planning and employee engagement.
- Manage compensation and benefits benchmarking, right‑to‑work compliance and skilled worker visa processes.
- Support organisational change, workforce planning and the ongoing rollout of firm‑wide people initiatives.
- Ensure GDPR compliance and maintain HR policies, procedures and systems (Workday).
About You
- Proven HR Manager or HRBP experience within a law firm environment.
- Strong, current knowledge of UK employment law and best practice.
- CIPD Level 5 or above (or equivalent experience).
- A confident, credible communicator able to influence and push back at Partner level.
- A genuine people developer – someone who invests in their team, builds capability at every level, and brings out the best in junior colleagues.
- Experience with cross‑border or US‑headquartered firms is a distinct advantage.
