An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to work into the bariatric surgery service in the Medical Psychology Department at North Tees and Hartlepool.
This is an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic and innovative Psychology Team. The post-holder will be based within a diverse Medical Psychology Department at the University Hospital of Hartlepool, working alongside motivated and compassionate psychology colleagues. This post provides excellent additional opportunities, including strong peer support, quality supervision and an emphasis on CPD. This a fixed term 12 month maternity leave post.
Main duties of the job
The successful post-holder will:
Offer specialist assessment for patients being considered for bariatric surgery and some limited therapeutic input when appropriate. Signposting of patients to various therapy providers when this is needed. Liaison with community mental health teams and GP practices when appropriate. Consultation with colleagues from the Tier 4 bariatric surgery teams at North Tees, South Tees and Durham & Darlington and attend weekly MDT meetings.
Work to provide a high-quality, compassionate and trauma-informed service to all individuals.
Implement a range of specialist psychological approaches, adjusting and refining psychological formulations as required.
Undertake psychological risk assessment and risk management.Engage collaboratively with colleagues in service evaluation, audit and research.
Support opportunities aimed at improving services.
Receive clinical supervision and adhere to CPD/professional registration requirements.

Person Specification
Qualifications
- Doctorate level training in Clinical or Counselling Psychology
- Basis for HCPC registration as an Applied Psychologist
- Experience in clinical health psychology
Experience
- Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients
- Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups
- Experience of staff training / teaching
- Experience of supervision of healthcare staff
Skills
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information
- Competence in at least one psychological approach
- Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies with specific difficult to treat groups
