Service Engineer (Field-Based)

UK (North & Midlands Region)

Remote / Field-Based with Travel

Our client is a specialist provider of laboratory testing equipment, supporting customers across the rubber and materials sectors. They are seeking a skilled and self‑motivated Service Engineer to join their field‑based engineering team.

This is a remote role offering a high level of autonomy, where you will travel directly to customer sites across the UK and occasionally Europe, carrying out servicing, calibration and repair work on specialist equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Service, maintain and repair laboratory testing equipment at customer sites
  • Calibrate electro‑mechanical and electronic instruments to required standards
  • Diagnose faults and carry out effective repairs
  • Perform preventative maintenance and routine inspections
  • Complete detailed service reports and calibration documentation
  • Provide technical support and advice to customers on‑site
  • Identify opportunities for upgrades, servicing solutions or replacement equipment
  • Support commercial activity by highlighting potential sales opportunities during visits

Requirements

  • Electro‑mechanical engineering background
  • Proven experience servicing laboratory or industrial equipment
  • Strong fault‑finding and diagnostic skills
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently in a field‑based role
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office (Excel preferred)
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Valid passport and willingness to travel internationally

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with materials or hardness testing equipment
  • Knowledge of ISO or UKAS calibration standards
  • Calibration experience (e.g. ovens, presses, balances)
  • Additional language skills (e.g. French) would be advantageous
