M2 – UP3 plus SEN1 responsibility point
This is a fantastic opportunity for a very special teacher to join a team of exceptional staff and children on an exciting phase in their journey. If you are looking for a ‘once in a career’ opportunity to learn and grow with our forward facing school, then this is the role for you!
Short Heath Federation – Specialist SEN teacher
Short Heath Federation is a group of schools built on a foundation of love and compassion. Our children have made us special, and we offer a highly inclusive environment where all children, regardless of their level of need, are loved and valued. We have significantly higher proportions of children with SEN, SEMH needs and EHCPs than the national average, driving our journey towards inclusive practice.
A little bit about us
Our classrooms are designed for the developmental stage and needs of our unique Short Heath children. They are happy, busy and emotionally safe environments with clear routines, consistent boundaries and warm, responsive relationships that help children feel secure. Children are encouraged to be autonomous, make choices about their learning and experience success.
We provide three additional supported learning provisions in school for children with communication and interaction and/or SEMH differences, with an upcoming further provision opening in September 2026.
Our school works closely with the HOPE Team – a highly skilled team offering support and guidance to our families – and a school therapist who offers support and supervision to both children and staff.
A little bit about the role
We are creating this role as we move towards opening our new Specialist Resource Provision. You will work with a team of staff within either an existing SEMH provision or the new communication and interaction provision (with a Level 3 TA and two further Level 2 teaching assistants). The team will consist of four adults and eight children, and you will also collaborate with staff across all of our provisions, mainstream staff, and colleagues at Rosedale, our federated infant school.
A little bit about you
We don’t seek a ‘perfect product’ – we want staff who are kind, compassionate, curious, solution‑focused and determined to make a difference. You should be able to handle both joyful and emotionally challenging days, take feedback constructively, and return each day with a positive mindset. Ideally you will have training or experience in Nurture, trauma‑informed responses, relational practice, and working with children with communication and interaction differences – with or without formal diagnoses. Above all, you must believe that ALL children have the right to an education that meets their needs for happiness and success.
