About Us

STARK is a new kind of defence technology company revolutionising the way autonomous systems are deployed across multiple domains. We design, develop, and manufacture high-performance unmanned systems that are software-defined, mass-scalable, and cost-effective. This provides our operators with a decisive edge in highly contested environments.

Location: Swindon Employment: Permanent employee, Full-time

Your mission

As a Configuration Control Engineer, you will be the guardian of technical integrity and product consistency at STARK. In an environment where we move fast from concept to high-rate production, you will ensure that every nut, bolt, and line of code is accounted for, traceable, and controlled throughout the product lifecycle. You will bridge the gap between engineering, manufacturing, and quality, establishing the rigorous frameworks needed to manage complex hardware and software configurations. Your work ensures that what we design is exactly what we built, and what we built is exactly what is fielded to our operators.

Responsibilities

  • Establish Configuration Management (CM) Baselines: Define and manage functional, allocated, and product baselines for our UAV platforms.

  • Lead Change Control Boards (CCB): Facilitate the review and approval process for Engineering Change and Requests for Deviation ensuring impact assessments are thorough across all departments.

  • Manage Product Structure: Maintain complex Bills of Materials (BOMs) within our PLM/ERP systems, ensuring alignment between engineering “As-Designed” and manufacturing “As-Built” records.

  • Enforce Documentation Standards: Oversee the release of technical data packages (TDPs), ensuring drawings, specifications, and software versions meet STARK’s rigorous standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Audit and Compliance: Perform Physical Configuration Audits (PCA) and Functional Configuration Audits (FCA) to verify that the physical product matches its technical documentation.

  • Cross-Functional Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact for configuration queries between Mechanical Design, Systems Engineering, Supply Chain, and Production teams.

  • Tooling & Process Optimization: Continuous improvement of our PLM workflows to support high-rate production without sacrificing traceability or speed.

Qualifications

  • Industry Experience: Proven track record in Configuration Management or Systems Engineering, ideally within aerospace, defence, or high-complexity autonomous systems.

  • PLM Expertise: Proficiency with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software (e.g., 3D Experience) and ERP integration.

  • Technical Literacy: Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, CAD models (SolidWorks/CATIA), and software versioning logic.

  • Standards Knowledge: Familiarity with CM standards such as EIA-649 or ISO 1007, and their application within certification frameworks (EASA/FAA/MIL-STD).

  • Attention to Detail: An uncompromising eye for detail and a “process-first” mindset.

  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills; able to hold teams accountable to CM processes while maintaining a fast-paced development culture.

  • Security: Eligible for UK Security Clearance.
