Role Overview
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is offering a consultant post in Haematology. This exciting role will join the dynamic Haematology Team at UHS and further develop regional myeloma and plasma cell disorders services. We seek an enthusiastic haematologist with a demonstrable interest in myeloma and plasma cell disorders, ideally with a track record of clinical and/or scientific research. The position is suitable for a candidate who wishes to be actively involved in the autologous stem cell transplant service for myeloma and to develop the clinical trials portfolio, as well as for those interested in general and liaison haematology. The successful candidate will work as part of the myeloma, myeloid and general haematology team.
UHS haematology services are based at the Southampton General Hospital site and comprise 21 consultants working closely with resident doctors, specialist nurses and laboratory scientists across all areas of haematology.
Responsibilities
- Management of patients with myeloma and related disorders in inpatient, day‑case and outpatient settings, including those undergoing autologous stem cell transplant.
- Active involvement in the recruitment and management of myeloma patients within clinical trials.
- Triage and outpatient management of general haematology patients.
- Inpatient attendance on a 1:3.5 basis covering combined haematology, including inpatient management of myeloma, myeloid and non‑malignant cases with support from subspecialty colleagues.
- Participation in a 1 in 7 combined haematology on‑call rota.
- Oversight of the development and delivery of liaison, referral and diagnostic pathways for primary care and the wider hospital.
