Consultant Histopathologist and Non-Gynae Cytopathologist
This vacancy is for a Consultant Histopathologist to work in friendly, high performing cellular pathology department. We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague to work as part our well-established consultant team on a permanent basis.
Main duties of the job
The appointee will, together with consultant colleagues, be responsible for the provision of a comprehensive, efficient and high quality cellular pathology (Histopathology, Non-gynae cytology & Andrology) diagnostic laboratory service. The appointee will also support the provision of mortuary and post-mortem services.
It is anticipated that the appointee will develop a lead role/special interest for which they will support the relevant MDT, in accordance with the departments requirements. They will participate in a fair and equitable “PUSH” system of work on a daily basis. They will be expected to report all areas of pathology serviced by this department
The appointee will provide clinical advice to colleagues regarding diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic indicators.
Job responsibilities
- Take aleadrolefor one or moreof the cancer specialist areas,attend MDTsrelating to this andprovide cover for other areas asrequired.
- Participate inRCPathCPD activities andmaintaincompliance withannual minimumcredit requirements
- Participate in teaching and training of staff at all grades including medical speciality trainees,studentsand laboratory staff
- Maintain compliance with annual appraisal and medical revalidation requirements
Clinical Responsibilities
- The appointee will be expected to provide laboratory liaison, experthistologicalandcytologicaladvice
- Demonstrate extensive use of personal judgement, based on experience and knowledge that may directly affect patient management.
- Share oversight of the processing of specimens in the laboratory, as well as provide reporting and clinical advice with other Consultant colleagues
- Telephone liaisonanddiscussionofindividualclinical casesin a timely mannerto meet local Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Adviceregardingdiagnostic tests,interpretation of results, general patient management toclinical teams
- Interpretationand reportingof laboratory test results.
- Supporting mortuary services through the provision of post mortem and digital autopsy reporting.
- Responsibilities for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required, and for contributing to post-graduate and continuing medical education activity, locally, regionally and nationally.
Person Specification
- Full and specialist registration with GMC or eligible within six months of CCT
Training
- Evidence of breadth of cellular pathology reporting including non gynae, specialist and general pathology
Clinical experience
- Evidence of experience in histological dissection
- CHAT or evidence of working towards it
Management/Audit
- Evidence of undertaking clinical audit
Professional/ CPD
- Evidence of participation in RCPath CPD scheme
