Our Client

A global financial services organisation group is seeking a 7PQE+ Regulatory/Financial Crime lawyer to join the team supporting the business on cross border matters. This team has a truly varied workload as they cover various locations within the EMEA business.

This is a critical hire for the business, sitting at the heart of decision making and working closely with Compliance, Financial Crime, and senior stakeholders across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing strategic legal advice on financial crime compliance including AML, sanctions, transaction monitoring, and high risk escalations
  • Advising on high risk client onboarding, risk assessment, and mitigation
  • Supporting the MLRO and Financial Crime team on ongoing projects and selected investigations
  • Engage and collaborate with internal teams, including compliance (including financial crime compliance), risk, technology, and product development, providing them with regulatory guidance.
  • Handling requests and appropriate escalations from regulators, law enforcement etc.
  • Anticipate and identify key regulatory obligations and integrity risks, and ensure these are addressed in a practical and scalable way
  • Liaise with external legal counsel when required
  • Provide strategic legal advice on complex, detail driven regulatory issues

The successful candidate:

We are looking for a senior lawyer (7+ years’ PQE) with strong regulatory and financial crime experience, ideally gained:

  • In an investment bank, fintech, crypto business, retail bank or regulated financial institution
  • Within a financial regulation / financial crime practice at a leading law firm
  • Advising regulated entities such as Worldpay or similar payments businesses
  • Experience across AML, sanctions is highly desirable.

*Candidates with equivalent experience outside of the PQE will be considered for this role.
