Job Overview
We are delighted to offer an exciting Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatry position within Rochdale CAMHS (6 PAs), delivering high-quality clinical input to a supportive, multidisciplinary team. The post is designed with flexibility in mind and can be extended to a full‑time (10 PA) role by combining with 4 PAs in either the North Eating Disorders Service or the Crisis Team.
Alternatively, a 7 PA portfolio can be created by adding a session in the Care for Children’s team. This opportunity is ideal for newly qualified (post‑CCT) or experienced consultants who wish to tailor their role to their clinical interests, whether focusing on specialist expertise, leadership, medical education or building a broader portfolio career. Role Summary
- Join a well‑established and experienced Tier 3 Community CAMHS multidisciplinary team. They will join three other consultants, a GP trainee and a core trainee, providing psychiatric support to the team.
- Be based at Rochdale CAMHS, Birch Hill Hospital, Rochdale, OL12 9RD.
- Post is a replacement post due to one existing consultant partially retiring and the 6 sessions becoming available.
- Work as part of a comprehensive CAMHS team with special responsibility for designated clinical pathways as per further discussions and areas of interest.
- Post is established and managed within the Trust’s CAMHS Care Hub, joining a dynamic, supportive, and expanding Consultant group, now 20 in number.
- Suitable for an experienced Consultant, or a suitably qualified Speciality Trainee (ST6), who wishes to work with the team in the development of the Service.
Responsibilities
- Provide a Child Psychiatric Service for young people up to 18 years within Rochdale, Heywood and Middleton. Assess and manage children and adolescents with a range of mental health needs, including neuro‑developmental disorders.
- Take clinical responsibility for an overall caseload, seeing approximately 24 new cases per annum and maintaining an open follow‑up caseload of approximately 40‑50.
- Adhere to policies and procedures in support of the caseload, maintain appropriate professional records, confidentiality, and administer out‑patient clinics.
- Utilise the Care Programme Approach, the New Mental Health Act, the Children Act and the Mental Capacity Act when required.
- Work in partnership with other professionals and agencies involved in the care of young people across departmental and organisational boundaries, providing regular consultation.
- Lead in management of referrals, care planning, CPA reviews and liaison with CAMHS, Local Authority, Working Age Adult Mental Health Services and Community Paediatrics.
- Utilise the 6 sessions in generic CAMHS.
- Out of hours, consultant input comes from the medical on‑call rota; join a dynamic and supportive Directorate and CAMHS Consultant peer group.
- Take a clinical leadership role, coordinate multidisciplinary working, and participate in monthly team supervision meetings.
- Assist with clinical supervision of CT trainee or GP trainee and contribute to team supervision.
- Provide mutual prospective consultant leave cover for annual and study leave with colleagues.
- Future job planning includes further opportunity to be nominated clinical supervisor/trainer to CT trainee or GP trainee.
