Overview

Trust Doctor (TD) posts are fixed‑term for 12 months starting 5 August 2026, providing wide clinical experience in Acute, General and Elderly Medicine at St James’s University Hospital (SJUH), Leeds. The role offers work in Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), Acute Medical Units and in‑patient specialty wards with training in acute care, comprehensive geriatric assessment, rehabilitation, multidisciplinary teamwork and discharge planning.

Job responsibilities

  • Provide high‑quality clinical care to patients across acute, general and elderly medicine settings.
  • Maintain medical practice standards and professional behaviour.
  • Develop and sustain good relationships with patients, families and multidisciplinary colleagues.
  • Participate in teaching, training and clinical governance activities.
  • Contribute to out‑of‑hours rota covering SDEC and medical admissions and support in‑patient wards.
  • Complete essential administrative duties such as prescribing, writing discharge letters and liaising with primary‑care partners.
  • Support audit, quality improvement and clinical governance programmes.

What you will bring to the role

  • Ensure high‑quality and safe care of patients, leading to excellent clinical outcomes.
  • Review patients, organise investigations, initiate and change treatment, and communicate with patients and their relatives.
  • Complete essential administrative duties including prescribing and writing electronic discharge letters.
  • Collaborate with allied health professionals such as specialist nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and discharge coordinators.
