Job Description:

Maintenance Shift Team Leader

Loughborough, Leicestershire | £51,000 | 3 Shift

The Opportunity

CV Technical is recruiting on behalf of a well‑established manufacturing business in Leicestershire for an experienced Maintenance Shift Team Leader to head up their reactive maintenance function on a rotating 3‑shift pattern. This senior, hands‑on leadership role has real impact – sitting at the front line of plant reliability and production support.

The successful candidate will lead a multi‑skilled maintenance team through breakdown response, ensuring plant issues are resolved safely, quickly and to a high standard. The business values strong decision‑making, clear communication and the ability to perform under pressure. A heavy industry background is an advantage but not a barrier – an experienced maintenance leader with the right skills and attitude is equally encouraged to apply.

The Role

  • Lead, supervise and organise the reactive maintenance team, allocating tasks based on urgency, risk and individual skill sets.
  • Coordinate rapid breakdown response across the plant, managing resources to minimise production downtime.
  • Provide hands‑on technical support and guidance to electricians, fitters and multi‑skilled technicians.
  • Ensure all reactive work is completed safely, efficiently and to a consistently high standard.
  • Maintain accurate breakdown records within the CMMS, capturing faults, parts used and repair times.
  • Act as the key point of contact between maintenance and production, communicating equipment status and recovery plans clearly.
  • Identify recurring faults and support management with root‑cause analysis and long‑term reliability recommendations.
  • Enforce compliance with LOTOTO, PPE and all site safety procedures throughout breakdown and recovery activities.
  • Deliver toolbox talks, safety briefings and reactive maintenance reviews with the team.
  • Monitor team performance against KPIs including response time, job completion rates and safety compliance.
  • Support team development through coaching, mentoring and identifying upskilling opportunities.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven background as a maintenance engineer (mechanical or electrical) in an industrial or manufacturing environment – essential.
  • Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience, with the ability to motivate a team under pressure.
  • Strong mechanical fault‑finding and troubleshooting skills across plant and production equipment.
  • Ability to prioritise multiple breakdowns simultaneously and allocate resources effectively.
  • Solid understanding of plant systems such as conveyors, mixers, pumps and material‑handling equipment.
  • Strong communication, planning and organisational skills.
  • Good working knowledge of H&S principles including LOTO, PPE and safe isolation procedures.
  • Multi‑skilled capability (mechanical and electrical awareness) – advantageous.
  • Experience leading multi‑disciplinary maintenance teams – preferable.
  • CMMS experience with strong documentation and reporting skills – desirable.
  • Familiarity with reliability‑centred maintenance or continuous improvement activities – beneficial.
  • PLC, SCADA or automation knowledge – desirable but not essential.
  • Heavy industry, aggregates or process manufacturing background – preferred but not required.
