Observability Architect

Company: LSEG
Apply for the Observability Architect
Location: London
Job Description:

The Role

LSEG’s Observability team powers the monitoring and platforms behind our global financial infrastructure — and this role is central to that mission. The Observability Architect builds how engineers across the organisation detect, diagnose, and resolve issues before they reach customers. It’s a chance to create and deliver platforms that span cloud-native, on-prem, and hybrid environments, and to partner with application, engineering, and SRE teams who depend on them every day.

What This Role Does

The Observability Architect drives the vision and delivery of LSEG’s observability architecture: spanning instrumentation, telemetry pipelines, storage, alerting, and automated response. This includes engineering pipelines with OpenTelemetry, Cribl, and other platforms to standardise data collection, reduce volume, and handle cost, as well as accelerating adoption of platforms such as Datadog, Splunk, Grafana, Prometheus, and BigPanda.

On a day-to-day basis, this role will:

  • Champion migration strategies that transition teams from legacy monitoring to modern observability platforms
  • Drive AIOps integration for event correlation, anomaly detection, and root cause analysis
  • Define and make sure SLIs, SLOs, and telemetry data strategies that balance signal quality, coverage, and cost
  • Author observability standards, facilitate maturity assessments, and report on adoption across the organisation

What We’re Looking For

We encourage candidates from a range of backgrounds who bring extensive experience in observability, monitoring, or site reliability engineering and are energised by answering that question every day. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of metrics, logs, and traces and how they connect across distributed systems, along with hands‑on experience operating observability platforms. Familiarity with OpenTelemetry and telemetry pipeline tools such as Cribl or Vector is important, as is experience in Kubernetes and multi‑cloud environments. A track record of delivering observability platforms across multiple teams or business units, and the ability to present technical strategies clearly to both engineering teams and senior leadership, are key to success in this role.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with BigPanda, ServiceNow, or similar AIOps and ITSM integrations
  • Background in financial services or another regulated industry
  • Familiarity with observability-as-code using GitOps or infrastructure-as-code workflows

Benefits

Competitive salaries alongside a strong benefits package including 25 days’ holiday per year plus an additional birthday day off, an annual wellness allowance, Share Purchase Plan, medical health insurance, medical subscription for preventive services, life insurance, Pillar 3 private pension, meal vouchers, flexible benefits, and Bookster access. We also support volunteering events and offer at least 26 weeks’ paid parental leave for all colleagues with one year’s continuous service, with the option to return on a phased basis.

Equal Employment Opportunity

We are proud to be an equal opportunities employer. This means that we do not discriminate on the basis of anyone’s race, religion, colour, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, marital status, veteran status, pregnancy or disability, or any other basis protected under applicable law. Conforming with applicable law, we can reasonably accommodate applicants and employees’ religious practices and beliefs, as well as mental health or physical disability needs.
