Senior Rapid Access Services Nurse or Paramedic

Camden Rapid Access Services (CRAS) is an adult physical health service providing Urgent Community Response (UCR), Hospital at Home (H@H), and D2A pathways. We are looking for a Band 7 Registered Nurse or Paramedic with experience in acute care (e.g., A&E, Paramedic, ITU, CCU, HDU) and valid NMC or HCPC registration.
Main duties of the job
- Urgent Community Response: Nursing/Paramedic led caseloads providing high‑quality care to patients in their homes who are experiencing acute deterioration, aiming to review within two hours of referral and preventing hospital admission.
- Hospital at Home: Support non‑medically optimised patients as early discharge from acute trusts or escalation from UCR, overseen by a Consultant Geriatrician, including IV medication, remote monitoring, and management of acute/chronic conditions.
Shift pattern
The team works a variety of shift patterns: 08:00‑21:00 (long day), 09:00‑22:00 (long day), 09:00‑19:00 (early), and 12:00‑22:00 (late). Selected candidates will work two out of four weekends per month. Up to four shifts or specific days off can be requested per roster.
Responsibilities
- Complete Physical Assessment/A&E/ITU Course (essential).
- Perform venepuncture, cannulation, and interpret blood results.
- Administer medication via PO, PR, IV, IM, SC routes.
- Triage and provide autonomous practice.
- Apply mental capacity assessment and act as Nurse/Paramedic in Charge.
- Mentor and provide teaching skills.
- Non‑medical prescriber (desirable).
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Registered Nurse with current NMC registration, or Registered Paramedic with current HCPC registration.
- Bachelor’s Degree (BSc) in Nursing or Paramedic Science.
- Extensive post‑registration experience in acute care (ITU, A&E, rapid response).
- Evidence of working within MDT and supporting timely discharge.
- Phlebotomy, IV cannulation, IV therapy skills (including PICC and central line).
- Excellent clinical reasoning and decision‑making skills.
- Proficiency in interpreting blood results.
- Broad knowledge of multiple specialties.
- Good IT skills and knowledge of Microsoft applications.
Desirable
- Higher degree (Master’s or in progress).
- Independent Nurse Prescriber.
- Community working experience.
