Cellular Pathology Secretary

Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust – Location: Milton Keynes.

Hours: Full time, 37.5 hours per week, Fixed Term Contract (9 months). Closing date: 25 May 2026.

We are seeking a motivated and versatile individual with a positive “can do” attitude and willingness to learn new skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide efficient secretarial service to Consultant Histopathologists, including entry of diagnostic reports and typing medical correspondence (medical terminology advantage).
  • Manage the administrative mailbox, troubleshoot queries, and handle filing and retrieval of blocks and slides for referrals to specialist centres.
  • Maintain accurate records and support the delivery of a high-quality Cellular Pathology service.
  • Use laboratory management systems and comply with regulatory standards (ISO 15189, HTA, screening programmes).
  • Meet departmental and trust KPIs and uphold clinical governance and risk management policies.
  • Answer telephone calls from hospital staff, GPs and other Trust departments in a professional manner.
  • Work safely in accordance with health and safety policy.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience

  • English and Maths GCSEs at grade C or above (or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of confidentiality principles and anatomical/medical terminology.
  • Experience in an administrative office environment, preferably NHS or health‑care setting.
  • Experience in data entry into information management systems.
  • Experience with BigHand digital dictation is advantageous.

£25,760 to £27,476 per annum, pro‑rata.
