Job Description:

RAD is looking for an engineer to lead the development and delivery of its advanced battery products. Taking responsibility for all aspects of battery supply from specification, procurement, storage, shipping, installation, charging systems, service, support, lifecycle and eventually disposal, the role will span many disciplines from electrical and mechanical engineering to project management and production planning.

Working closely with our suppliersthe engineerwilldefinethe requirements for our range of high and low Voltagebatteriesto complement our propulsionproducts. As our product range grows, so too will the battery requirementsandproduction volumes.

Keeping up to date with the latest battery technology to ensure RAD’s offeringremainscurrentand cost effective, the lead engineer willensure thatsupply matches demand,in volumes, quality,reliabilityand standards compliance, specifically for marine applications.

The role will involve interacting with new customers topredictperformance and helpplaninstallationsincludingproduction ofwiring, chargingand cooling systemschematicsalongwith installation and maintenance guides.

Theaim is to minimise the amount of customer supportrequiredthroughsimple installation, high reliability,andcomprehensive anduser-friendlydocumentationbutit is inevitable that new products will require a degree of support which willbe overseen by the Battery Engineering Lead.

The role combines deep technical ownership of the electrical design with effective product management to deliver market leading market leading marine electrification.

Summary of KeyResponsibilities

  • Development and delivery of RAD’s battery and power systemproduct range including High Voltage batteries,chargers,DCDCs,cablingand cooling systems
  • Management of supply chain,maintainingreliable supply matched to demand
  • Oversight of quality assurance and standards complianceincluding shipping regulations
  • Ownership of customer support activities in connection with the battery and power systemsincludinginitialsystem integration andinstallation
  • Production ofdrawings, schematics, userguidesand service manualsasrequiredfor customer integration
  • Keeping up to date with new and upcomingbattery and powertechnologies tomaintainRAD’s positionin the market as aleadingsupplier ofcutting-edgeproducts

Skills & Experience

  • Experience developingHV and LVelectrical systems or battery packs
  • Good knowledge ofHVsystemdesignincluding over currentprotection, insulationresistancemonitoring,pre-chargesystemsandsafetyinterlocks
  • Understanding of EMC,cableshieldingand equipotential bonding
  • Good technical knowledge of HV battery charging, includingstandards such as CCS and understanding of charge profilesand communicationprotocols
  • Familiarity with battery compliance standards such as UN38.3, IEC62619 and preferably some familiarity with commercial marine standards such as Workboat Code 3
