Obsolescence Manager – Component Engineering

Hybrid (2 days per week on-site)

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to take the lead in developing and delivering our client’s component obsolescence strategy – defining best practice, driving improvements, and ensuring our products remain at the cutting edge of reliability and innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the review, development and maintenance of the obsolescence management processes.
  • Proactively and reactively manage the obsolescence status of thousands of components across our missile and support equipment designs.
  • Provide expert advice and reporting to design, equipment and portfolio teams.
  • Collaborate closely with Component Engineers to analyse supplier data and trends.
  • Influence decision‑making by promoting robust and coordinated obsolescence management practices.
  • Share your expertise through design reviews, training and mentoring activities.
  • Contribute to international obsolescence initiatives, helping to define and implement best practices across global teams.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience or strong knowledge in obsolescence management, tools and techniques.
  • Understanding of BS 62402:2001 requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to produce clear, concise, and professional engineering documentation.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with a collaborative mindset.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with tools such as Matrix PLM, SAP, Silicon Expert, or IHS.
  • A background in component or electronic engineering would be advantageous.
