Clinical/Counselling/Forensic Psychologist – West

Band 7 – Band 8a

Main area Clinical/Counselling/Forensic Psychologist Grade Band 7 – Band 8a. Post is available at Band 7 (developmental) or 8A depending on experience. Relevant support and experience will be provided to ensure that successful newly qualified applicants will be able to transition into an 8A psychology post after demonstrating significant post‑qualifying experience and meeting the requirements.

Salary: £49,387 – £64,750 per annum (pro rata)

Job Overview

We are recruiting Clinical/Counselling/Forensic psychologists into our adult community mental health teams (CMHT). We are looking for those who are innovative, flexible, and passionate about transforming and delivering trauma‑informed, person‑centred care. Our CMHTs provide care to people aged 18 and above experiencing moderate-to-severe mental health difficulties.

Posts are available at Band 7 or 8A, with support for newly qualified applicants to progress to an 8A post.

Working patterns are flexible, may include remote working, but the successful applicant will be physically based within team bases in Cornwall for most of the week.

A relocation package is available for discussion.

Main Duties

This community‑based role requires frequent travel to various locations throughout the county, including areas not accessible by public transportation. Successful candidates must demonstrate how they will manage these travel requirements.

The role sits alongside other practitioner psychologists, psychological therapists, assistant psychologists, trainee psychologists, Clinical Associate Psychologists (CAPs) and Mental Health Wellbeing Practitioners (MHWPs) embedded in an experienced, compassionate, trauma‑informed and person‑centred multidisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assessment (including neurodevelopmental) and formulation of clients.
  • Individual and group interventions and consultation using a range of therapeutic approaches.
  • Contributing a psychological perspective to team working, treatment planning and supervising other psychological professionals.
  • Supporting quality improvement and enhancing services.
  • Providing ongoing training in CAT, CBT‑P, DBT, EMDR, and FIP.
  • Contributing to the development of a new model of integrated primary and community mental health services linking CMHTs and Primary Care Networks.

Person Specification

Education / Qualifications and Relevant Experience

  • Doctoral level training in Clinical Psychology, Counselling Psychology, or Forensic Psychology (BPS accredited) – either completed or expected to complete.
  • HCPC registered as a Practitioner Psychologist or expected to be before commencing (for those still in training).
  • Experience in specialist psychological assessment and treatment across various care settings (outpatient, community, primary care, inpatient).

Skills and Aptitudes

  • Advanced skills in psychological assessment, formulation, clinical interventions, and case management.
  • Excellent oral and written communication of complex, technical, or sensitive information to clients, families, carers, and professional colleagues.
  • Proficiency in providing consultation to professional and non‑professional groups.

Additional Information
