We’re looking for an experienced Asset Optimisation Manager to join our team and play a key role in ensuring our water and wastewater assets are efficient, compliant and delivering for our customers. This role is based in Reading.
Responsibilities
- Identify and prioritise capital investment requirements to meet contractual obligations and deliver reliable water and wastewater services.
- Develop and maintain an asset survey programme to inform investment decisions.
- Assess and recommend capital investment solutions that ensure efficient use of funds, compliance with regulatory standards, and operational safety.
- Balance investment requirements within financial frameworks and contractual commitments.
- Maintain effective liaison with internal and external stakeholders to provide accurate information for investment decisions.
- Communicate technical solutions and costed recommendations to customers.
- Collaborate with in‑house teams and external suppliers to deliver capital projects.
- Identify opportunities for upskilling and extending in‑house delivery capabilities.
- Drive initiatives to minimise operational expenditure (e.g., chemical and power usage, asset visit frequency).
- Promote “Spend to Save” opportunities where upfront investment reduces long‑term costs.
- Act as a technical focal point for customer challenges and propose tailored solutions.
- Support commercial teams with costed recommendations for new opportunities.
Qualifications
To be successful, you’ll have strong experience in asset management, optimisation or capital investment planning within a utilities, water or wastewater environment. You’ll be confident managing complex projects and balancing technical, regulatory and financial considerations.
You will be highly analytical with strong problem‑solving skills and able to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
Experience working with asset management systems, telemetry or remote monitoring tools would be beneficial, along with the ability to lead cross‑functional teams and manage supply chain relationships.
It would be advantageous to have a degree in Engineering, Asset Management or a related technical discipline, professional accreditation such as IAM, ICE or CIWEM, and knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental compliance, with NEBOSH or an equivalent qualification preferred.
This role requires a full UK driving licence and the flexibility to work a nine‑day fortnight when required.
